Temperature control of the inside of the payload is essential in HAB projects. Based on standard atmosphere and data from previous launches, temperatures outside of the payload during a standard balloon launch can dip as low as -60° C. The main threat this poses to the payload is temperature effects on battery capacity - battery capacity can as much as halve at -18° C. Another concern with payloads at low temperatures is the functionality of electronics at said temperatures. Therefore, it is necessary to take precautions to maintain temperature within the payload.

This is accomplished with the use of payload heating and insulation.
